Computer generations

Explain about  Computer Generations?
Computer Definition: There are 5 Computer Generations They are

1) First Generation Computers
2) Second Generation Computers
3) Third Generation Computers
4) fourth Generation Computers
5) Fifth Generation Computers

1) First Generation Computers: these are made up of Vacuum tubes. These are huge in size very slow calculations. These are failed frequently. In this generation punched cards are used for input and magnetic drum are used to store data. These can produce lot of heat so ac’s are necessary. Only machine language are used in this generation.

2) Second Generation Computers: in this generation Vacuum tubes are replaced with transistors. Comparing to 1st generation these can do fast calculations. High level programming languages were being developed in this generation. Magnetic tapes and magnetic drums are used for data storage.

3) Third Generation Computers : in this transistors were replaced with integrated circuits (IC). These are small chips contains thousands of transistors capacity. So these computers were small in size comparing to 2nd generations. Communications are developed using telephone line in this generation. Data is stored on hard disk and cd, DVDs.

4) fourth Generation Computers : Present computers are under coming this category. In this generation computers were used microprocessors.

5) Fifth Generation Computers: In the fifth generation, VLSI technology became ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration) technology, resulting in the production of microprocessor chips having ten million electronic components. This generation is based on parallel processing hardware and AI (Artificial Intelligence) software
